Alaskan Cruise Journal: Day 2 - Day at Sea

Well, last night there was a little excitement after I posted yesterday’s journal. About 11:30 p.m. the Captain came on the PA speaker to announce there had been a medical emergency onboard that required a guest needing to be taken off and returned to Vancouver. Since we were not in a place to turn the ship around, the Canadian Coast Guard sent a helicopter to the ship.

Staterooms within certain zones on several decks had to be vacated during the helicopter operation Well, my room was one of them. The crew knocked on my door and told me to go downstairs and hang out until the operation was complete. They even came into my room and brought my balcony furniture inside. Long story short, I was able to return to my room around 12:30 a.m. (Word has it the man was able to get to the hospital in time.)

Needless to say I slept in a little longer than I planned, but that was ok since this was intended to be a relaxing day at sea. I did get up and went to the fitness center to work out a little bit. Then I had a late breakfast where an older lady from Los Angeles came and sat with me. We got to talking. The conversation turned slightly to religion where she asked me if I was a Christian. I told her I was and that I was a member of the Baptist denomination where she replied she was too. So we had a fun conversation.

I enjoyed the hot tub before and after lunch. It was a beautiful, cool, sunny day today. After lunch when I was in the hotel tub I visited with an older lady from Idaho who was on her first cruise ever. We had a good conversation about traveling.

Later I got cleaned up and Jerrill and I went to afternoon tea.

Following tea I enjoyed a relaxing in the room before we went to supper for our first formal night. Tonight we were actually seated at a table with two older couples. We hit it off well with one of the couples who were from Denver. They had to leave right after dessert for a portrait sitting. However, the waiter came to us a few minutes later and said that couple had requested we join them the rest of the cruise at dinner since they had a good time visiting with us. So that was really fun.

After dinner we went to the evening show, Bravo. It was a collection of Broadway music along with Opera. Very talented singers.

Now hopefully an uneventful night tonight so I can get a good night’s rest. We have a very early meeting time at the pier in Ketchikan tomorrow for our excursion.
